◼️Main Rule  – keep in mind that
(suggest + indirect object + infinitive) is not used.
‘Suggest’ takes a direct object.

Now what is direct object?

Let’s try to understand this with the help of an example.

He gave me a book.
Here ‘book’ is a direct object while ‘me’ is an indirect object.

Having understood that we can’t use

Correct form is –

⚫Note  – Suggest can be used with indirect object by adding a preposition (to) before the indirect object. But it’s not very common.

He suggested to me that we go for a walk. ✔️
He suggested that we go for a walk.✔️ (This is the most common usage)

 ◼️Rule 2
(suggest + that clause)
In “that clause ” verb is in subjunctive form so it doesn’t changes its form.

Example – Her brother suggests that she studies harder so she can get into a good university. ❌

Here ‘study’ is in subjunctive form so it won’t change. The verb stays in the base form (bare infinitive) form.

I suggested that he pay for the dress. ✔️
I suggested that he paid for the dress. ❌
I suggested that he pays for the dress. ❌
