okay now let’s talk about some most important error spotting/error detection questions and their solution.

1) Meera did this (a)/ work as good as (b)/  she could  (c)/ no error


Solution : The error is in (b) 

⚫Note as well as’ instead of ‘as good as’. 
‘As good as’ is the positive degree of adjective ‘good’ while ‘as well as’ is the positive degree of adverb ‘well’ . Here to qualify the verb ‘did’, we need adverb.

2) Rita was in the courtyard(a) / when the burglars(b) / entered into her house(c) /No error 


Solution :The error is in (c)


⚫Note – ‘Enter’  is not followed by into when it is used for a physical space(courtyard, room, place etc) . But when ‘enter’ is used for an agreement, we use ‘into’ after it. 

For example


We entered  an agreement. ❌

We entered into an agreement.✔️

3) Our teacher (a) /emphasised on the use(b) / of correct grammar(c) /No error 


Solution :The error is in (b)


Emphasised’ is not followed by on.Remove on.


4) There is no mother (a) / but loves (b)  her children (c) /no error 



Solution : There is no error. The given sentence is absolutely correct. 


⚫Note – ‘But’ is generally used as a conjunction but here it’s used as a relative pronoun and when but is used as a relative pronoun, it means who.. Not/ who doesn’t / which doesn’t. 

So the sentence means there is no mother who doesn’t love her children.

5) Puneet is busy(a) / in his work (b) /for his presentation (c) /No error 


Solution :The error is in (b)


⚫KIM (keep in mind) –  ‘busy’ is followed by with. 


6) 
Sneha acted (a)/  nobler than all (b)/ of her friends  (c)/ no error

Solution : The error is in (b) 

⚫Note –  more nobly’ instead of ‘nobler’.
‘Nobler’ is comparative degree of adjective ‘noble’ while ‘more nobly’ is comparative form of adverb ‘nobly’.

7) Sonali was debarred to attend(a) / the meeting (b) /of senior officials (c) /No error 


Solution :The error is in (a)


‘Debarred from attending’ is the correct usage.


⚫Note – Preposition ‘from’ is used with ‘debar’.

Solution: The error is in (a)


‘Disposed’ is followed by ‘of’ , not ‘off’.


9) Her brother suggests that (a) / she study harder so she (b)/  can get into a good university (c) / no error 


Solution : The sentence is absolutely correct. 

⚫Note – ‘Suggest’ is an unusual verb which is different from the other verbs. It attracts the subjunctive mood ( I have covered ‘how to use suggest or any verb which attracts subjunctive mood in the previous post.. Check it out.. Go to menu – Grammar rules – Verb section)

Solution: The error is in (c).  ‘ As cheap as’ is the correct usage here. 

⚫Note – No comparison is implied, when there is ‘times’ used for comparison. So positive degree is used. 


11) Meena’s idea of (a) /going to the party(b) / was universally accepted by all(c) /No error 


Solution :The error lies in (c)


Use of all is superfluous here. Universally itself means that all accepted the idea. So using ‘universally accepted’  or ‘universally acknowledged’  is wrong



12) 
So quickly shivangi ran (a)/ that she (b)/ caught the bus (c)/ no error

Solution : The error is in (a)

Note – ‘so quickly did shivangi run’ is the right usage. If a sentence is introduced by an adverb, inversion takes place. So ‘did run’ will be used instead of ‘ran’.
 
 
13) Could you please(a) / repeat back what (b) /you  just said (c) /No error 

Solution : Use of back is superfluous here, it’s not used with repeat.
 
14) Meera awaited for him (a) /for two hours(b) /but he didn’t come(c) /No error 
Solution: The error is in (a)


For is not used with await.

Await = wait for
Comprise = consist of
Investigate =inquire into
 
15) He was hated (a) /by everyone for being (b) /a coward man(c) /No error 
 
Solution :The error is in (c) 

Coward man ‘ is not used. Use either ‘coward’ or ‘cowardly man’. 
Coward is a noun while cowardly is an adjective, not an adverb. 

He is coward. ❌(coward is a noun, so use an article before it) 
He is a coward. ✔️
He is a coward man. ❌
He is a cowardly man. ✔️
16) The burglars had fled away with all the money and jewelleries before the police arrived 
 
Solution :The error is in (a) 

Flee is not used with away as it itself means ‘to run away’.  
17) The reason sohan(a) / didn’t come to the party (b) /was because he was ill(c) /No error 

Solution :The error is in (c) 


Reason and because are not used together as both have the same meaning. 
 
18) You should keep (a) / yourself away (b) / from bad company (c) / no error 

Solution : The error is in (b). Remove yourself
Note – Following verbs are not used reflexively 
Keep, stop, turn, qualify , bathe, rest, hide. 
 
19)  A judge must be slow in anger (a) /and quick to forgive ;otherwise he may risk(b) /abusing his powers(c) /no error 
Solution : The error is in (a) 
 
It must be slow to anger, slow to anger is a phrase which means ‘patient’. 
20) Radhika was sad(a) / because she couldn’t attain (b) /the passing marks in the exam(c) /No error 

Solution : The error is in (c) 


‘Pass marks’ is right usage. Using ‘Passing marks’ is wrong.
